The most helpful things you can do are:
1) Review the book on Amazon or Audible (if you purchased the book from either) or on Good Reads. This is by far the single most helpful thing you can do—the number of reviews influences visibility of new books on these platforms.
2) Give a copy of the book to someone who you think it will resonate with. This is how my books find their audience in the long run. Plus, it’s a great way to thank or encourage someone.
3) Tell people about the book—on social media, in person, or any other way you communicate with others!

Include a link to your favorite bookseller/platform. Add the bookcover image, or a photo of the book if you have it already!
Make it personal:
Remind your friends/family/followers about your own joy. Share something like: “As you know, [running/swimming/yoga/dance/powerlifting/whatever your joy is!] is an important part of my life. [Explain why you love it/what it’s meant to you!] A new book, The Joy of Movement by Kelly McGonigal, explains why exercise is so beneficial to mental health and social connection, and how to find your own joy through movement.”
Attend or Promote a Live Event
Jan 1 2020. Pop-Up Signing in Books Inc., Palo Alto, CA. Buy a copy, get it signed, take a selfie with me! I’ll be at my local independent bookstore (74 Town & Country Village, Palo Alto) from TBD to TBD. I’ll also have a curated collection of some of my favorite books in the store. Buy any book in the store, and I’ll sign any previously purchased book that you bring, and/or take a selfie with you!
Jan 9 2020. Jumpstart Joy Book Launch Party at the Upper West Side JCC in NYC. 7–9 pm, $40 (334 Amsterdam Avenue at 76th Street; doors open at 6:30 pm)
Do you want to experience more joy in 2020? At this launch party for Kelly McGonigal's The Joy of Movement, learn why movement is integral to both personal happiness and social connection. Join us for a live taping of the Pivot Podcast, featuring host Jenny Blake in conversation with McGonigal. Then experience the joy yourself in a movement session led by Nia Black Belt Trainer Caroline Kohles. This session, accessible to all bodies, is designed to show you how you can easily move your body to experience gratitude, joy, and hope in community. DJ Petra Kolber closes the event with a dance party set to a playlist curated by attendees. The ticket price includes a hardcover copy of The Joy of Movement, which Kelly McGonigal will sign for attendees. Come dressed to move, and let the music, community, and joy move you!

I will record a personalized 60 second video for any book club/group/community reading The Joy of Movement together. Send me an email (kelly@kellymcgonigal.com) telling me about the group and anything you’d like me to include in the video—such as a shout out to any individual/team, encouragement for an upcoming event, a question/prompt you want to discuss with your group, or a question I can answer in under 60 seconds!
